Chapter 3 · Choosing Your Installer
3.5 Why we don't recommend "T-brand" equipment
T-brand solar / storage products have three structural problems:
- Fully integrated and non-serviceable: T-brand welds the inverter and battery into a single sealed enclosure. After the warranty expires, any single component failure means replacing the whole unit ($10k+). Mainstream stackable / modular designs let you swap a single cell module or a single BMS.
- Slow customer service: search "T-brand solar service" on any forum and you'll find real customers whose repair request from August was still unaddressed in October.
- Hidden cost-of-ownership trap: same playbook as their EVs — the upfront price is high but tolerable, but the true ownership cost (insurance, repair) is dramatically higher.
If you really want the T-brand minimalist aesthetic, fine — but go in with a backup plan.
