Chapter 7 · PPA / Lease ("Free Install") Contract Traps
7.11 What to do if you already signed
- Right to Cancel (cooling-off period): after signing, most contracts give you 3–30 days to cancel without penalty (state-specific).
- Read the fine print: have a knowledgeable third party review the contract clause-by-clause looking for actionable breach provisions. We offer free contract reviews.
- Early buyout: many contracts allow buyout starting around years 5–10, when the valuation is lower. This is often the best exit window.
- Install a parallel Non-export system: as described in section 5.8, you can route around the PPA by building a separate small system that powers the home directly without touching the leased system.
