9.7 Step 6: utility PTO (Permission to Operate)
- After passing city inspection, paperwork is submitted to the utility.
- The utility swaps in a bi-directional meter: 1–4 weeks.
- You can only officially energize the system after receiving the PTO Letter.
Never energize the system before PTO is in hand. If the utility detects back-feed, they may bill it as consumption, fine you, and permanently revoke your NEM eligibility.
